Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - Seven contracts on the restoration of 235 km of roads from external funds out of 14 ones existing in 2017 have been cancelled.

According to Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici, the reason for the cancellation was that entrepreneurs had failed to fulfill their obligations. This information was unveiled at a press club.

A state secretary at the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, Anatol Usatai, said that two of those seven cancelled contracts had been repeatedly put up for tenders and acts were signed with other entrepreneurs, who will provide roads’ repair. In the case of another five contracts, the road segments due to be restored will be re-designed.

„When we saw that the entrepreneur with whom we signed the contract will not be able to complete the works in the next years, then we resorted to the contract’s cancellation. In these cases, we got the agreement of foreign partners, in order not to lose financings,” Usatai noted.

For his part, the economics minister also said that, following discussions with representatives of the World Bank’s Office in Moldova, decision-makers had agreed that local entrepreneurs can also participate in tenders held by the institution in Moldova.

At the discussions, the local companies’ representatives involved in roads’ rehabilitation said that they were facing problems concerning the lack of raw material and workers, even if they have salaries not lower than 10,000 lei.

The network of public roads from Moldova includes more than 9,300 km and the local roads of village interest have a length of 30,000 km.
