Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - The water from five wells of the northern Drochia town will be tested and the results of the analyses will determine the subsequent decisions on establishing the source of water due to supply the settlement or the possibility to build a new water treatment station. These works are part of a project implemented by the North Regional Development Agency (ADR Nord) with the support of the government of Germany.

Presently, the second of those four phases of designing the system of Drochia town’s supply with water and sewerage is underway and at this stage, it is necessary to carry out tests on the quality of water coming from those five wells. According to specialists of the Drochia town mayoralty, the procedures of testing the water last two weeks.

ADR Nord Director Vitalii Povonschii stressed that the investments in the water’s quality must be priority, and then the ones in the aqueduct networks themselves. “Taking into account the residents’ health, it is vital that people have access to quality drinking water,” the ADR Nord director noted.

The project, Improvement of services of water and sewerage supply services in the Drochia city, is implemented within the programme, Modernization of Local Public Services in Moldova (MSPL), implemented by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ).

According to a chief international consultant within the MSPL/GIZ project, Dietrich Hahn, the carrying out of analyses for water is a foremost need, as well as a quite clear directive on behalf of the European Union, which finances the project. “Before continuing the designing and carrying out the construction works, it is necessary that we make sure that the water from the concerned sources is drinking. We do not rely on the earlier carried out analyses and we want to know the present situation in this respect,” Dietrich Hahn said.

As much as 4.6 km of aqueduct of drinking water under pressure and 8.5 km of water supply networks will be rehabilitated in the Drochia town. The water supply networks from Drochia will be extended by 8.9 km. At the same time, a drinking water treatment station, two pumping stations, seven water towers and six drinking water reservoirs will be constructed and restored in Drochia. Also, seven hydro-phore stations will be set in the many-storied blocks of flats. About 17,300 local residents will be connected to the water supply system.
