Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip has discussed with a group of pensioners the effects of the pensions’ reform, during a visit to the central Telenesti district. The elderly people said that, as a result of the reform, their pension had increased significantly. At the same time, they encouraged the cabinet to continue the social projects aimed at backing elderly persons, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

„I know that the pension is still low; yet, it is important that we have removed an injustice done to those who retired after 1999 through the pensions’ reform. By the introduction of a new calculation formula, we have laid the foundations of a correct and fair pensions system,” Pavel Filip said.

Following the pensions’ recalculation, the number of beneficiaries receiving pensions lower than 500 lei has got almost to 0, being reduced from 4,000 persons to 40. At the same time, the number of those getting a pension higher than 2,000 lei has doubled.

In early October, the last stage of pensions’ recalculated began. As a result, almost 95,000 persons will receive higher pensions. It is about 85,064 beneficiaries of age limit pensions and 9,753 beneficiaries of disability pensions.

As a result of this recalculation, the average size of an age limit pension increases by 308.43 lei (by 20 per cent up to an average pension of 1,784.94 lei), and in case of disability pensions, the increase will stand at 415.24 lei (by more than 40 per cent, up to an average pension of 1,368.45 lei).
