Chisinau residents celebrate city's Dedication Day

Chisinau, 14 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s capital today marks its Dedication Day, when the old-style Orthodox Christians celebrate the Holy Protection of the Mother of God.
The events dedicated to this holiday started with laying flowers at the monument to Stefan cel Mare. At the same time, the holy Liturgy was officiated at the Birth of God Metropolitan Cathedral.
Also today morning, an exhibition of workmanship, floriculture, book, painting, graphic, etc. was inaugurated in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral. The official inauguration of the holiday of Chisinau’s Dedication Day took place on the square of the Birth of God Metropolitan Cathedral at 11:00. The actions continue on the Great National Assembly Square, where more artistic bands give concerts. Also, the Chisinau districts’ praetor’s offices organize a musical and choreographic programme on stages from the Stefan cel Mare blvd.
The capital’s residents will also enjoy a musical and choreographic show titled, Chisinau- the Cradle of Nice Hopes, performed by artistic bands of pre-university education institutions from the Chisinau municipality. The show will take place on the stage of the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) at 14:00-16:00. A choreographic show of modern dance, famous waltzes and tangos with the brass band of the department of culture and leisure parks of the Chisinau municipality will be held in PMAN as well.
The main show of Chisinau’s Dedication Day will be held on the Great National Assembly Square between 17:30 and 23:30, during which singers of Moldova and from abroad will perform.
This year, Chisinau’s Dedication Day is marked without fireworks. The local authorities informed that the decision had been taken as a token of solidarity with the victims of the explosion which occurred in the Rascani district of Chisinau last week.
The Chisinau city hall said that, during the holiday, the road traffic would be suspended on the Stefan cel Mare blvd between the Ismail and Mihai Viteazul streets, given that cultural and artistic events dedicated to the holiday are organized on the central boulevard. Thus, on the same period, the movement of the public transport will be redirected to the adjacent streets.
Dedication Day of more settlements is marked in Moldova on 14 October. According to the Orthodox Church, the miracle of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God took place in the Church of St. Mary of Blachernae from Constantinople, during the rule of Leo VI the Wise (886-912). The Mother of God appeared during an all night-vigil, surrounded by saints and praying to God for the mankind.
