New measures to support persons with disabilities to be introduced in Moldova

Chisinau, 16 October /MOLDPRES/ – The facilities for importing transport means meant to transport persons with disabilities of the locomotor system and exempting them from the use of roads were the topics discussed today, within a working group created on the initiative of Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The draft law envisages ensuring the right of import of transport means to all persons with disabilities of the locomotory system regardless of the degree of disability. In this respect, the periodicity of the realisation of this right is reviewed every 5 years, compared to the current provisions – once every 7 years. After 5 years, people with disabilities will have the right to sell their means of transport.
The discussion also addressed the issue of road tax exemption for all persons with locomotory disabilities, not just the ones who have manual cars, as it is at present.
The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure (MEI) will set up a working group in order to regulate the mechanism of re – equipment of the means of transport for the needs of persons with locomotor disabilities.
Within the actions for increasing the access of the disabled to the public institutions is also the installation of the special access ramp in the headquarters of the Government. This ramp was tested for the first time today by a person with special needs, a member of the working group.
Around 15 thousand persons with locomotor disabilities live in Moldova.
