Chisinau, 17 October /MOLDPRES/ - The government today approved the setting up of four new embassies of Moldova, respectively, in India, Argentina, Ghana and Ireland.
The opening of a permanent diplomatic representation of Moldova in New Delhi, India, which according to forecasts, will be one of the first three economic powers of the world, will give “new possibilities of cooperation on issues of common interest with this country, in the bilateral and multilateral context,” as well as of promotion, access and relations, through India, to states of the concerned region, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) has reported.
The ministry noted that the opening of an embassy of Moldova in Ghana would create “friendly conditions for ensuring the country’s diplomatic presence on the African continent, especially in the sub-Saharan part; this would allow developing the relations (relatively scant at present) with a string of states from the concerned zone, as well as identifying new opportunities of cooperation and turning to good account the present potential in diverse fields.”
Moldova’s embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, will be the first one on this continent and is dictated by the need to ensure a diplomatic presence of Moldova in South America.
The subject on setting up a diplomatic mission of Moldova in Dublin, Ireland, was tackled at more bilateral meetings, including high-level ones. “It was stressed that such an action would have a beneficial impact on the development of the bilateral relations in different sectors and for the providing of a bigger support for Moldova on behalf of Ireland on diverse dimensions,” the MAEIE’s informative note reads. About 15,000-20,000 Moldovan citizens work in Ireland and the potential of the bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, tourism fields is big.
At present, Moldova has 33 diplomatic and consular missions abroad. The last embassy was opened in the United Arab Emirates several weeks ago.
