Artists from 11 countries to participate in International Choral Music Festival in Moldova

Chisinau, 17 October /MOLDPRES/ - Over 20 choral bands with a number of more than 600 singers from Moldova, Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Italy, Macedonia, Poland Romania, Russia, Spain and Ukraine will perform at the 11th issue of the International Choral Music Festival, ”A ruginit frunza din vii” (The Vine Leaves Have Rust), due in Chisinau on 18-21 October.
At a today’s news conference, the head of the Musical and Choral Association of Moldova, Elena Marian, one of the festival’s organizers, said that the event’s goal was to promote the choral musical art nationally and internationally. According to Marian, four categories of bands will give concerts at the competition: choirs of children, youth choirs, mixed and chamber choirs. They will be assessed by an international jury led by Valentina Bolduratu, according to a norm of 30 points.
Elena Marian noted that the festival’s official opening would take place at the Ginta Latina Revue Theatre at 18:00 on 18 October and the contest itself – at the headquarters of the National Ethnography and History Museum on 19 October. On 20 October, the participants in the contest will participate in a concert of folk music at the Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic, on 21 October – at concerts of sacred music in churches nearby Chisinau and on the same day at 18:00, at the Festival’s Gala of Laureates at the Organ Hall.
The event is organized by the Musical and Choral Association, in partnership with the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, East European Foundation, through funds provided by the government of Sweden, National Ethnography and History Museum, Chisinau city hall, Metropolitan See of Moldova and other institutions.
The first issue of the International Choral Music Festival and Contest,”A ruginit frunza din vii” (The Vine Leaves Have Rust) took place in 2007.
