Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ – The Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE) of the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection (MSMPS), on the basis of the assessment of risk of triggering the public healthcare emergency, has set today the reduction of Orange Code to Yellow Code of measles disease risk at national level.
This is due to the fact that during this period there was a decrease in measles diseases, in October there was only one case of measles versus September – 19 cases, and the fact that the number of vaccinations against measles has increased. Thus, the vaccine coverage in Moldova is 95 per cent, in August – September the number of immunised children reached 47,242, said the press service of MSMPS.
Also, the cited source pointed out that the possible risk of triggering the public healthcare emergency is maintained and it is determined by the evolution of epidemiological situation in measles with the possible occurrence of outbreaks in low – vaccinated population groups. This is also caused by intense migration in the regions at risk for measles, including in neighbouring countries, Ukraine and Romania, as well as in other European countries (Italy, France and Greece) where Moldovan citizens travel.
In this context, the MSMPS urges the population to avoid travelling to the countries affected by measles, such as Russia, Romania and Ukraine, and to vaccinate against measles, which is the only and most effective method of preventing measles disease.
