Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/- Official reserve assets reached a new historic high of 3 billion 39 million dollars, according to data released today by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM).
BNM data also show that the official reserve assets increased by 230 million dollars compared to the last year. Most of the reserves, namely 1.6 billion dollars, are held in securities and 1 billion 431 million are availability and term placements, including in foreign banks. The statistics show the situation at the end of last week.
The recent increases in foreign exchange reserves are due to BNM interventions in the domestic market in the form of currency purchases, the evolution of the exchange rate of the component currencies against the US dollar and the income from foreign exchange reserves management.
BNM data show that official reserve assets increased by 598 million dollars in 2017, compared to 470-million-increase in 2016.
