Moldova reiterates request to increase tariff contingents at export to EU market

Chisinau, 22 October /MOLDPRES/ - EU’s representatives have considered Moldova’s request to increase the tariff contingents on export and the talks on this subject will continue. The state secretary at the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, Iuliana Dragalin, made statements to this effect. Dragalin participated in the fifth meeting of the Moldova – European Union Association Committee at the Trade configuration, in Brussels last week.  

According to the aforementioned ministry, Moldova’s representatives reiterated the request to consider possibility of increasing the tariff contingents, as well as to make amendments to the list of products which make the object of a mechanism against circumvention through the increase in the quotas for the products with a high capacity of production and export.   

At the event, Moldova’s delegation presented the main achievements in the implementation of the commitments coming from the Association Agreement on the dimension of foreign trade, public procurement, quality infrastructure and market supervision, intellectual property, energy and services sector. As for the foreign commerce, the Moldovan delegation noted that, in 2017, Moldova’s exports to the European Union’s market had amounted to 1.59 million dollars, accounting for 65.85 per cent of all Moldova’s exports. The European Union is the principal trade partner of Moldova.   

In the end, the sides reiterated the need of a good work of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area through boosting the commercial ties, overcoming challenges in the process of work of the business and use of the best practices of development.
