Moldovan speaker meets new US envoy

Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/- The United States of America is Moldova’s strategic partner, and cooperation in all areas of common interest should be further developed. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu made the statement at a meeting with new US Ambassador to Moldova Dereck Hogan, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The officials exchanged views on internal developments in Moldova and region, as well as the risks of external interference in the context of future parliamentary elections. The speaker pointed out the authorities’ determination to ensure free and transparent elections. To this end, the authorities have taken and continue to take actions to ensure the fairness of the electoral process, including rules and equal opportunities for all candidates. In this context, Candu noted the report of the legal commission on rules and immunities, covering elections in the capital and the parliamentary investigation related to the Open Dialog Foundation.

The speaker pointed out increasing inter-parliamentary cooperation between Moldova and the USA. During this year, the inter-parliamentary dialogue was turned to good account through meetings at State Department, Treasury and US Congress and USAID. This year, US Congress and Senate recorded resolutions for Moldova.
