Moldova adjusts food safety norms to European requirements

Chisinau, 08 November /MOLDPRES/ – The Government has approved today the draft law on food safety, a draft elaborated in order to implement the provisions of the National Action Plan for the implementation of the Moldova – EU Association Agreement in 2017 – 2019.
The provisions of the draft law are in line with the principles and general requirements of European food law, of product safety procedures. The draft establishes general principles of legislation governing the field of foodstuffs as well as nutrition, in general, their safety, the responsibilities of food business operators. The document also stipulates the food safety requirements at all stages of food chain, areas of competence of the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) and the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection (MSMPS).
Similarly, the food safety supervision and control systems are nominated and described. Also, the bill establishes the procedure for authorisation of new food supplements and food products. The project aims at ensuring a high level of consumer healthcare protection and guaranteeing the right to safe food throughout the accountability of food business operators.
The draft is to be examined by Parliament. The new law will enter into force 24 months after its publication in the Official Journal of Moldova.
