Italy to support Moldova in process of reforming Carabineer Troops

Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip and General Commander of the Carabineer Army from Italy Giovanni Nistri today discussed aspects of reformation of the Carabineer Troops from Moldova and the importance of Italy’s involvement in the process of institution’s modernization, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The PM appreciated the Italian side’s contribution to the carrying out of the reform of the Carabineer Troops, especially the promotion of the interests of carabineers from Moldova on international platforms. The prime minister stressed that the authorities remained firmly committed to the implementation of the strategy of reforming the carabineer troops for 2017-2020, aimed at fully professionalizing the effective strength and at consolidating the institutional capacities. At the same time, decision-makers have recently approved the law on the General Inspectorate of Carabineers. The document will provide carabineers with more powers in terms of security missions and public order.
„We need professional carabineer troops, who are to intervene in time, so that we ensure the public order. We are determined to advance in the reformation of the Carabineer Troops and we are happy that Italy will guide us in this process,” Pavel Filip said.
For his part, Giovanni Nistri reiterated openness for boosting the bilateral cooperation. In this respect, Italy will further back the implementation of the reform of the Carabineer Troops in Moldova and will provide assistance as to the supply with equipments, organization of trainings and exchange of good practices. In 2017, over 100 Moldovan carabineers were trained in Italy.
