Moldovan foreign affairs minister, ambassador of South Korea discuss bilateral relations

Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova is interested in the development of the political dialogue, commercial, economic, cultural and other kinds of relations with South Korea, considering that the developments in the bilateral cooperation of the last period open new opportunities for boosting the Moldovan-Korean collaboration. Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi has made statements to this effect at a meeting with Kiev-based Ambassador of South Korea to Moldova Lee Yang-Goo, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
Tudor Ulianovschi said that the positive answer by the Korean side to MAEIE’s proposal on the change of the embassy accredited for Korea from Beijing to Tokyo represented an important step in the development of the Moldovan-Korean cooperation, providing a wider spectrum for setting new collaboration partnerships in various sectors of common interest. In the context, the Moldovan diplomacy head reiterated the Moldovan authorities’ interest in signing agreements on the promotion of investments and avoidance of double taxation, as well as starting by the Seoul authorities of proper actions in terms of unilateral removal of the visa regimes for the Moldovan citizens. Moldova applied the concerned procedure for the South Korean citizens on 3 January 2014.
The Moldovan diplomacy head welcomed the launch by the Better World Korean non-governmental organization of a project on renovation of the Medical Centre and water supply system from the Poganesti village, central Hancesti district.
During the meeting, Ambassador Lee Yang-Goo reiterated the Korean authorities’ interest in extending the cooperation ties with Moldova. He expressed confidence that the boosting of the relations would allow initiating new bilateral projects in various fields. In the context, the South Korea official named projects in the education sector, which give young Moldovans possibility to have better access to new information technologies and digital education, etc.
To foster the bilateral dialogue, the officials reiterated both sides’ interest in organizing inter-ministerial political consultations by state secretaries/deputy foreign ministers, in order to exchange opinions on problems of common interest in the international relations.
Five bilateral agreements have been signed between Moldova and South Korea so far and another three ones are under negotiation.
