Chisinau, 9 November /MOLDPRES/ - The harvest of second-degree crops has been almost completed and preliminary data shows an average productivity per one hectare higher that in 2017, according to the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM).

Data put out by the district departments for agriculture and nourishment shows that 95 per cent out of the total area of 344,000 hectares cultivated with sunflower have been harvested in Moldova. The average productivity on the country is 2.26 tons/hectare: 2.6 tons/ha in northern Moldova and 2.1 tons/ha in the central and southern regions.

More than 80 per cent of the overall area planted with maize has been harvested. On this sector, the average productivity on the country is 5.1 tons/ha. The best situation is registered in the northern districts – 5.6 tons/ha, followed by the southern region, with 5.4 tons/ha, and the districts from central Moldova, with 4.7 tons/ha.

"The state of maize crops is satisfactory; the plants recovered after the rains from last June and July. Thus, according to forecasts, this year, the average harvest per one hectare will be bigger than in 2017, when it stood at 3.7 tons/ha,” a chief consultant at the MADRM directorate of production policies, processing and regulating quality of the vegetal origin products, Marin Grama, said.

The harvest of soy is almost close to the end; it was almost fully harvested (96 per cent) with an average productivity of 2.3 tons/ha.

„The sugar beet was harvested on more than 50 per cent of all the area and the works are carried out according to the schedule. At present, we can say that the forecasts dealing with the sugar beet are encouraging, when we record an average productivity on Moldova of 40 tons/ha,” Marin Grama told MOLDPRES.
