Moldovan Academy of Sciences' prizes for 2017 awarded

Chisinau, 9 November /MOLDPRES/ - A ceremony of awarding prizes of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences (ASM) for 2017 took place at the institution’s headquarters today. The event was held at a festive meeting dedicated to the World Science Day for Peace and Development, yearly marked on 10 November.  

Contacted by MOLDPRES, ASM President, Academician Gheorghe Duca said that the academies of sciences were institutions of dedication, which appreciate the value of the researchers, their meritocracy. “The prize of the Academy of Sciences of Sweden – the Nobel Prize, is an example in this respect. The Academy of Sciences of Moldova has also the history of its prizes. The first laureates of the ASM prizes are: corresponding member, specialist in the history of the Medieval Moldova, geneticist Kovarski, two brothers Moscalenco, etc. The nominal prizes are according to sectors and bear the names of personalities who brought their contribution in the science field,” the ASM president stressed.      

The ASM prizes were awarded in the following fields: history and philosophy, chemistry, agriculture, biology and ecology, engineering, mathematics and IT, social and economic, law and political sciences, Romanian language, literature,  promotion of the knowledge and impact of science in the society.  

The Science Day has been marked in Moldova on 10 November since 2010, in the context of the World Science Day for Peace and Development, marked on the same day. This international step, initiated by UNESCO, is aimed at promoting the role of science in the daily life of the entire society.
