Moldovan finance minister says governance hopes to turn public sector more competitive, attractive by new wage payment law

Chisinau, 09 November /MOLDPRES/ – The salaries will be increased for budget employees in all areas, but "the main beneficiaries of the unitary pay system law will be employees in education, local authorities and social welfare. In this way, we hope to make the public sector more competitive, more attractive," said Finance Minister, Octavian Armasu, at a press conference of Government today.

Another goal is to make the public sector competitive with the real sector as a salary level. The Minister referred in particular to the fact that the salary of local public authorities would increase by 33 per cent in 2019. "The jump will be even higher than the average, by virtue of the fact that we have found that the work of the local authorities is undervalued and the vast majority of employees in these institutions have found themselves on a higher level in the new wage grid," said the Minister.

Octavian Armasu pointed out that the bill on the unitary pay system was worked on for two years. "The goal was to have this unitary system to eliminate inequities and imbalances in the system, but also to strengthen state institutions. They can not be strong if we have poorly paid officials, and state institutions are the foundations of the rule of law, democracy and everything we strive for," concluded Armasu.
