Every second transaction with cards issued in Moldova represents cashless payments

Chisinau, 13 November /MOLDPRES/- Moldovans are increasingly using cards to pay for shopping in commercial units, gas stations or paying bills. About six million out of 12.5 million card transactions issued in Moldova in the third quarter were non-cash payments, according to data by the National Bank of Moldova.
Payments with electronic payment instruments increased by 44.2 percent in July-September compared to the same period of the previous year. It is the eighth consecutive year in which card payments in commercial networks and other service units grow strongly.
BNM data also show that card payments had a weight of 12.6 percent of the value of transactions with cards issued in Moldova performed in the country.
The value of card transactions issued in Moldova amounted to 13.5 billion lei, up by 15.3 percent compared to the third quarter of the previous year. Transactions abroad made by Moldovan cardholders amounted to 1.55 billion lei, of which 88.8% were non-cash payments.
On the other hand, foreigners or Moldovans who have cards issued abroad spent about 2.7 billion lei in Moldova in the third quarter of this year, compared to 1.9 billion in the same period of 2017.
Card transactions issued in Moldova reached a record high for nine months, namely 37.7 billion lei, and following the tendencies from January to September this year, will reach 5 billion lei.
