Several tourist signs inaugurated in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 13 November /MOLDPRES/- Over 20 multilingual tourist signs were inaugurated today on several streets in the capital.
Attending the event were acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Moldova, William Massolin, the representative of the European Union Delegation in Chisinau, Gintautas Baranauskas, and representatives of ethnic minorities.
Codreanu said that 23 signs will be installed in 71 locations across the city. "Signs will mark the most important tourist attractions in the city. The inscriptions will be in Romanian and English, as well as in the languages of ethnic minorities - Russian, Ukrainian, German, Bulgarian and Yiddish. In this way, we want to promote multicultural values and tourism in our country ", he said.
For his part, Massolin said “such indicators will be installed throughout the country to highlight the contribution of national minorities."
"This project will ensure respect for the languages of ethnic minorities, which is a priority of the European Union. Language is an element of preserving national identity, so I am very glad that this project has been successful," Baranauskas said.
Multilingual tourist signs were made by the Chisinau city hall under the project Protecting national minorities and minority languages in Georgia, Moldova and Belarus, part of the Partnership for Good Governance of the European Union and the Council of Europe. The initiative has a budget of 25 thousand euros.
