Chisinau, 15 November /MOLDPRES/ - Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici and Romanian Minister for Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship Stefan-Radu Oprea today signed the Protocol of the 11th session of the Moldovan-Romanian inter-governmental commission for economic cooperation, held in Chisinau on 14-15 November.
After the document’s signing, Chiril Gaburici said that the participants in the meeting had established the next steps of cooperation between the two states in more sectors. “We discussed the independence we want to have in this field and projects dealing with the gas pipeline Iasi – Ungheni – Chisinau, as well as the plan on connecting Moldova to the European network of electric energy. We also tackled subjects on priority projects, such as the construction of a European gauge railway and building road bridges across the Prut river,” Gaburici noted. The minister also said that the commission members had ruled that its meetings be held twice a year.
Stefan-Radu Oprea said that the next meeting of the Moldovan-Romanian inter-governmental commission for economic cooperation would take place in Bucharest in next summer. “On 1 January 2019, Romania will take over the presidency of the European Union. On this occasion, I want that we show once again the priorities Romania has in the development of the Eastern Partnership, especially with Moldova, by backing the European integration of this country. I think that the fact that Romania is the first of the countries with which Moldova has trade exchanges tells everything about the dimension of the mutual relations. At the same time, the dimension of investments is another measure of the good friendship existing between the two states,” the Bucharest official said.
Romania is the leader in the ranking of Moldova’s commercial partners, both in imports and in exports, with a share of 19 per cent in the first nine months of 2018.
