Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/- The Center Development Region will implement waste management practices, taken over from colleagues from Latvia. An exchange of experience in this regard was recently carried out during the visit by a delegation from Moldova to the Riga Planning Region.

The Center Regional Development Agency (ADR Centru) specialists were interested in several successful projects in Latvia, and the Getlini EKO ecological polygon was the most appreciated for waste collection and ecological processing including recycling plants and fuel production etc.

Getliņi EKO is an association set up by municipalities of Riga and Stopiinje, jointly managing the largest landfill in the Baltic countries - Getlini. The landfill is one of the most efficient in Europe, being formed and developed as a modern and safe waste recycling center.

“This experience of creating solid waste management centers could boost the development of the area in the Centre Region. Currently, the regionalization of waste management is proposed to be implemented through territorial division of the region into three areas. Thus, the Centre Region of the country will comprise Zone 4 - Straseni, Ialoveni, Hincesti, Criuleni, Cocieri, Anenii Noi; Zone 5 - Ungheni, Nisporeni, Calarasi and Zone 6 - Soldanesti, Rezina, Teleneşti, Orhei ", sources in ADR Centru said.

For the Ungheni-Nisporeni-Călăraşi management area, a feasibility study was worked out with the support of the German International Cooperation Agency. The document was sent to the local management to identify, together with the central authorities, sources of funding for project implementation in the area.

The Moldovan delegation's visit to Latvia took place within the project -Support to the development of Moldovan regions in involving citizens in drafting and implementing national, regional and local planning documents, financed and implemented by the Latvian Ministry of Ecology and Regional Development.
