Six more busts unveiled on Alley of Illustrious scientists, doctors in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/ – Six more busts have been unveiled today on the Alley of illustrious scientists and doctors in Chisinau, alongside with 35 existing ones of leading personalities of medicine and native pharmacy.
These notorious personalities are: Alexandra Vizitiu, Constantin Matcovschi, Vasile Cecurin, Ion Marin, Vasile Cuprianov and Alexei Molohov.
Interviewed by agency, rector of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) Nicolae Testemitanu, Ion Ababii, said that the idea of inauguration of the alley came many years ago, in order to enchant the memory of those who contributed to the development of medical higher education and national healthcare system. "We have many famous personalities who deserve to have a bust on this alley. We have also developed some criteria for selecting them. I think we shall have four or five busts here," said rector Ion Ababii.
Several teachers spoke about the merits of the six illustrious scholars and physicians. Thus, Vasile Cuprianov (1912 – 2006) was the head of the Department of Human Anatomy of the State Medical Institute in Chisinau (1956 – 1959), academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, winner of the USSR State Prize, president of the Society of Anatomists, Histologists and Embryologists of the USSR, editor – in – chief of journal Anatomy, Gistology and Ebriology, and a renowned specialist in microcirculation.
Scientist Constantin Matcovschi (1930 – 2015) was the first dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, founded in 1964, and during 1966 – 1968 he worked as deputy rector. By working in the Pharmacology Department, he played a significant role in turning the teaching process in Romanian, actively participating in the translation of Russian pharmacology textbooks. He also founded the Department of Pharmacy of the Vientiane Institute of Medicine in Vientiane, Laos, and lectured in French.
From the group of authors who worked on building the busts, there are sculptors: Veaceslav Jiglitchi, Tatiana Bazarova, Dmitrii Harasalov, etc. Attending the event, Veaceslav Jiglitski thanked the USMF leadership for having entrusted the sculptors with these busts.
The alley is located in the botanical sector of Chisinau, in the immediate proximity of a socio – cultural university complex, where are located: Museum of History of Medicine and Pharmacy, Medical Scientific Library, etc.
The Alley of of illustrious scientists and doctors was inaugurated in October 2015.
