Chisinau, 21 November /MOLDPRES/- The maximum period of stay in Moldova of vehicles registered abroad is 180 days a year. Drivers who violate this rule will be fined up to 4,500 lei, according to the Customs Service.
Besides the fine, the owners of cars with foreign number plates, overstaying in Moldova, are obliged to take them out of the country. If the cars are found throughout the country, the holder bears the escort expenses, which is 0.15 euro/km.
At the same time, if the vehicle does not leave the country within this period and it was destroyed or sold for parts, the customs body will collect import duties or will charge their value.
The Customs Service also noted that the restriction is not applicable to cars entered the country by individuals residing abroad and holding driving license in the country of domicile. However, after the expiry of 180 days from the first entry in the country, they must pay the vignette, which is 180 euros for 180 days.
