Chisinau, 21 November /MOLDPRES/ – The election agitation or agitation to support the referendum could be allowed both on the eve of elections and election day. It will be banned only on the territory of the polling stations or within a radius of 100 metres from them. The legislative initiative on the behaviour of citizens in the run-up to the elections was announced today by the Executive, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, has mentioned that it would be difficult to measure the 100-metre radius of the polling stations and proposed to legislators to consider the possibility of excluding this provision, so that the electoral campaign will be banned only in the polling stations.

The fine for non-observance of the new provisions will range from 300 – 600 lei for individuals and from 1,200 to 1,500 lei for the persons with a position of responsibility or electoral candidates.

The legislative initiative was drafted following the recommendations of the Commission of legal issues, appointments and immunities, which on 31 October 2018 approved the Report on the Analysis, Examination and Evaluation of the Electoral Legislation which underpinned the invalidation of the local elections in Chisinau.

The document is to be submitted for scrutiny and approval to the Parliament.
