Chisinau, 21 November /MOLDPRES/ - The regional telecommunications company Interdnestrcom might be registered under Moldova’s jurisdiction and, in this way, conditions will be created for resuming the phone connection between both banks of Dniester, following amendments made to the Article 97 from the law on electronic communications. The draft law on making the amendment, submitted by an MP as legislative initiative, got a positive note on the behalf of the cabinet today.
„The adjusting of the law is necessary for implementing the protocol decision on measures of organizing the interaction in the telecommunications sector, signed on 25 November 2017,” Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici said at the cabinet meeting.
According to the minister, this decision creates conditions for the advancement of the negotiations on the registration of the regional telecommunications operator Interdnestrcom under Moldova’s jurisdiction and phone interconnection between both banks of Dniester. Thus, the government will be able to provide compensation to the Orange and Moldcell operators for the retrocession, in the territorial limits, of the frequencies on the band of 800 MHz and the regulatory authority will register, based the Moldovan legislation, the Tiraspol-based operator.
„The process takes place with OSCE’s mediation,” Gaburici noted. The minister also said that the legislative amendment would not have legal effects, unless the national operators make the voluntary secession and derogations from the internal framework of operation are provided. At the same time, this decision “is a clear-cut sign that Moldova makes needed steps for integrating the region into the legal area,” Chiril Gaburici said.
The phone connection was interrupted in 2003.
