Chisinau, 22 November /MOLDPRES/- Producers and distributors of drinking water will be required to comply with several quality parameters and to develop safety plans. The measure is included in a government decision, which will be published in the Official Journal of Moldova on 23 November.
According to the document, drinking water quality will be improved, ensuring its purity and excluding any risk to human health.
The project sets out quality monitoring, water quality conditions, as well as authorities responsible for information and monitoring. Under the document, the established parameters must correspond to the water in the consumer's tap, bottled drinking water and water used in the production at food enterprises. It must be clean, free of micro-organisms, parasites or substances, representing potential danger to human health.
Public authorities will be responsible for water quality. Thus, the National Public Health Agency (ANSP) will monitor water quality at each stage of production, and the National Food Safety Agency will monitor the quality of drinking water used by food enterprises and bottled water.
Also, the sources of drinking water in rural areas, such as wells, will be subject to controls. They will be checked once every three years by ANSP's territorial subdivisions. If laboratory analyzes show that water does not meet the necessary conditions, it will be forbidden to use it for human consumption, animals and irrigation. At the same time, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection will publish on the website of the institution, every three years, a national report on drinking water quality.
