Foreign currency supply covers demand by 102.2 per cent in October 2018 in Moldova

Chisinau, 22 November /MOLDPRES/ – The level of coverage of the net demand of foreign currency by economic agents throughout the net foreign exchange supply of individuals constituted 102.2 per cent in October 2018, compared to 114.2 per cent in September 2018, according to data released by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) today.
Compared to in September, the net foreign exchange supply of individuals fell by $5 million, while net foreign exchange demand from economic agents had an opposite trend, increasing by $15.1 million. The individuals sold in October total currency equivalent to $300.1 million and bought $111.7 million.
Against a surplus of foreign currency, the BNM made purchases on the local interbank market in the amount of $28.9 million.
Under these conditions, a Moldovan leu depreciation against $1 was recorded in October to MDL 17.0018 per $1, compared to MDL 16.7754 for $1 in September. The BNM has said the national currency depreciated in October by 1.6 per cent.
Regarding the currency structure of the net foreign exchange supply from individuals, the majority weight continued to be the single European currency (EUR) – 70.8 per cent, followed by the Russian rouble (13.5 per cent) and the USD (11.6 per cent).
