Moldovan insurance companies subscribe for over nine months premiums of over MDL 1.1 billion

Chisinau, 22 November /MOLDPRES/ – The insurance companies in Moldova subscribed in the first nine months of 2018 bonuses worth MDL 1 billion 129.2 million, up 5.7 per cent over the same period of the previous year, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (BNS). At least 94 per cent of the gross written premiums are general insurance.

The BNS notes that autovehicle liability insurance accounted for 48.7 per cent of total gross written premiums. The life insurance continues to have a small share in the insurance market, that is 06 per cent.

The compensation and insurance indemnities paid amounted to MDL 421.0 million, up 25.1 per cent compared to the payments made in the corresponding period of 2017.

According to the BNS’s information and media communication service, in January – September 2018 the revenues of insurers amounted up to MDL 1516.8 million and decreased by 10.2 per cent compared to respective period of 2017. The expenditures were of MDL 1483.2 million, being decreasing by 9.4 per cent compared to the same period of 2017. The profit before tax decreased by 35.0 per cent.
