Moldovan parliament amends Constitution

Chisinau, 22 November /MOLDPRES/ – The notions of "handicapped" will be replaced in the Constitution with the term person "with disability". The Parliament has adopted today by 71 votes the amendment of Article 50 and Article 51 of the Supreme Law.

According to the authors of the document, once these changes are implemented, the provisions of the Constitution will be adjusted to international law. Also, it will be respected the commitment assumed by the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which establishes the transition from the medical model to the social one based on inclusion.

The document comes to ensure the protection of people with disabilities, human rights and fundamental freedoms by promoting dignity.
