Chisinau, 23 November /MOLDPRES/ - The electoral agitation at the headquarters of the polling station and at the entrance into the voting room will be banned on the election day, according to legislative amendments adopted by the parliament in the final reading today.
Under the document, the Article 52, paragraph 10, of the Electoral Code will be changed, through which the silence day is excluded and no electoral agitation will be allowed at the headquarters of the polling station and at the entrance into the voting room on the election day.
At the same time, the new regulations will be included into the Contravention Code too. They will stipulate the electoral agitation at the headquarters of the polling station and at the entrance into the voting room. Thus, the continuation, on the voting day, of the electoral agitation or agitation for backing the referendum at the headquarters of the polling station or in the voting room will be sanctioned. The fine imposed against private people will be worth from 750 to 1,500 lei and the one for decision-makers or electoral candidate will range from 1,750 to 2,500 lei.
The new regulations envisage that, if a republican referendum is held on the same day with the parliamentary polls, the electoral districts and electoral councils are set up according to the same criteria.
The initiative belongs to a group of lawmakers and was elaborated following recommendations by the juridical commission for rules and immunities. On 31 October this year, this commission approved a report on the analysis, expertise and assessment of the electoral legislation which stayed at the basis of the invalidation of the new local polls in the Chisinau municipality.
