Latvia to share experience with Moldova in organizing electoral process

Chisinau, 24 November /MOLDPRES/ - Latvia will share with Moldova its experience in the organization of a fair, free and transparent electoral process. Prime Minister Pavel Filip and President of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis agreed on this fact in Kiev today. The Latvian official said that parliamentary polls had recently taken place in his country, noting that the Latvian side had a good experience in holding the ballot, including in the prevention of the interference of forces from outside the country with the electoral process, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Pavel Filip said that the government did its utmost to organize free and transparent parliamentary elections. To this end, the cabinet took the decision to set cameras in polling stations, in order to exclude any concern. At the same time, the electoral process will be monitored by a large number of foreign observers.
Pavel Filip and Raimonds Vejonis exchanged opinions on Moldova’s European integration. The PM stressed that the government’s action programme was based on the Moldova – European Union Association Agreement and the European direction was the only plan of the country’s development.
In the context, Raimonds Vejonis confirmed Latvia’s support for Moldova’s European course and promotion of reforms for the country’s modernization. The prime minister thanked the Latvian side for the constant support provided to Moldova both in the European integration and at the bilateral level. In 2017, Latvia provided Moldova with technical assistance worth over 100 million euros, to carry out projects on backing the sector of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), for Moldova’s sustainable development and strengthening the capacities of state’s institutions.
In the end of the meeting, Pavel Filip congratulated the Latvian nation on marking the Centenary of the proclamation of Latvia’s independence. He expressed confidence that the relations between the two states would develop in continuation, for the benefit of the citizens.
PM Pavel Filip is on a visit to Kiev to participate in the events dedicated to the victims of Holodomor (man-made famine in the Soviet Ukraine). More officials attend the solemn ceremony, among whom the presidents of Slovakia and Latvia.
