Moldovan parliament speaker has meetings with presidents of both chambers of Romania's parliament

Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today had meetings with President of the Romanian Senate Calin Popescu-Tariceanu and President of the Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea in Bucharest, where he pays his last official visit of the current mandate, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.    

The Moldovan parliament’s delegation also included the co-head of the Joint Commission for European Integration between the parliament of Moldova and parliament of Romania, George Mocanu.  

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu thanked his counterparts for the firm support for Moldova’s European integration and backing provided for the projects carried out in Moldova in the last years. At the same time, Andrian Candu referred to the need to multiply the projects which bring sustainable benefits for Moldova’s development. In particular, the parliament speaker touched upon the projects on energy inter-connection and the one on support of investments.    

At the meetings, the officials tackled subjects on the future presidency of Moldova at the Council of the European Union, topics on security and measures to counteract hybrid risks. At the same time, the sides discussed a programme on strong support of Moldova on behalf of Romania, which might be launched next year.

For their part, the presidents of the two chambers of Romania’s parliament stressed the support of Moldova’s European prospects and the domestic reforms on the trajectory of the country’s European integration.  

The discussions were focused on the parliamentary elections due in next February. Andrian Candu highlighted the authorities’ determination to ensure a democratic and fair ballot, according to the international standards. The parliament speaker invited both members of the Romanian parliament to participate in international missions of monitoring the parliamentary polls due in 2019.   

At the end of the meetings, the parliament speaker signed in the Book of Honour of the Senate and the one of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian parliament and handed the Medal of Democracy to Calin Popescu-Tariceanu and Liviu Dragnea for outstanding contributions to the deepening of the friendship relations between Moldova and Romania, as well as for special merits for the development of relations with Moldova’s parliament.  

At the same time, the parliament speaker was awarded the Collar of the Parliament – the highest distinction of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian parliament.
