Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/ – Speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu, thanked for the support provided by the National Bank of Romania in the process of consolidating the capacity of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) at the meeting held today in Bucharest with the first deputy Governor of the National Bank of Romania, Florin Georgescu, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The officials discussed the progress made in reforming the financial and banking sector as well as the implementation of the new banking law adopted shortly by the Parliament of Moldova on the basis of the recommendations of the European Twinning Programme led by the central banks of Romania and the Netherlands.

The SP expressed his conviction that the change of the Governor of BNM would not affect the process of aligning the banking sector with the international standards, in line with Basel III principles. The chairman of the legislature said that in this mandate a new candidate for the position of Governor of the National Bank of Moldova would be proposed to the plenum to continue the reforms that have begun. Also, Andrian Candu thanked for the increase of the presence of the banks of Romania in Moldova and expressed hope that the good cooperation between the central banks of the two states would continue in upcoming period.

Florin Georgescu reiterated the privileged relationship between BNM and BNR and reconfirmed his willingness to continue supporting bilateral and European reforms in the Moldovan banking system.
