Moldova provided with primary energy resources at rate of 26.2 percent

Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/- Moldova is provided with its own energy resources only in proportion of 26.2 percent, the rest are imported. Out of all available resources in the country, one third is petroleum products. In 2017, half of all energy resources in the country were consumed by the population. These are just a few of the findings of the annual statistical paper "The Energy Balance of the Republic of Moldova", carried out by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS).
According to statisticians, only 9.1 percent of the energy resources in the country are used in the transformation sector, and 90.9 percent - the end consumers.
Energy consumption in the transport sector accounted for 28 percent of final energy consumption and only 10 percent in the trade and public service sectors, while industrial consumption was estimated at 8 percent.
The energy balance of Moldova is worked out by the BNS annually and includes indicators referring to the inputs, outputs, production, exports, imports and final consumption of primary energy and energy from transformation during the reference year. Energy balance is presented in accordance with international standards in conventional energy units.
Energy Balance data serve as the basis for effective policy-making and the adoption of measures relevant to reducing the country's energy dependence, optimizing and diversifying energy resources, and increasing the use of renewable resources, promoting solid biofuels and supporting renewable energy producers.
The annual statistical work -Energy Balance of the Republic of Moldova was presented in a workshop entitled "Energy Statistics of the Republic of Moldova".
The workshop also focused on the Sustainable Development Agenda and the importance given to energy resources in the development of mankind until 2030. Moldova, together with the other countries of the world, has committed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 7 on Ensuring access to affordable energy in a safe, sustainable and modern way.
