Teachers' wages in Chisinau to increase by 20 per cent

Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/-Teachers' wages in Chisinau will increase by 20 percent, according to a decision approved yesterday unanimously by the Chisinau Municipal Council. The decision will have retroactive effect and the increases will be recalculated from 1 September 2018.

Under the document, about 9,200 teachers in pre-school, primary and secondary education will benefit from it.

The goal is to keep the teaching staff in the educational system. According to the municipal data, there was a deficit of 920 teachers and 863 auxiliary staff early in 2017-2018 study year in Chisinau general education institutions.

At the same time, in September 2018, the monthly salary of the teaching staff was about 3,600 lei and auxiliary staff - up to 1,380 lei, which is lower than the average salary in economy and does not cover vital needs – the document’s authors said.
