Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/- Preparing the country's roads for the winter period and steps due to be taken to improve traffic conditions were discussed at the government today. Prime Minister Pavel Filip pointed out the importance of permanent cooperation between the authorities and the continuous information of the citizens about the practicability of the routes, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
“People need to know which roads are working, which their condition is and who is responsible for, so when there is a problem, everyone knows who exactly they can address," the premier said.
In this regard, an online application is to be launched to inform citizens about traffic conditions on the national roads, and to see who is responsible for each region.
At the same time, the monitoring center will operate 24/24. It started its activity on 17 November. There will be managed snow removal works and the work of specialized services. To ensure better monitoring of equipment involved in road cleaning, the premier proposed to equip all units with satellite monitoring systems (GPS).
Also, a guide on public roads in winter will be applied to improve the traffic conditions. It sees the interaction between the responsible institutions and the public authorities when the weather codes are announced. In this context, Filip highlighted the need to maintain an active dialogue with the APL in order to effectively manage the situation on the national and local roads, noting that increased attention should be paid to school routes to ensure the pupils' movement to educational institutions.
This year, 518 units will be trained to carry out the snow removal and distribution of anti-skid material on the public roads and about 15,000 tons of salt will be used.
