Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/ - The government today approved a draft law on the ratification of the agreement between parties to the Police Cooperation Convention for Southeast Europe on automated exchange of DNA data, dactyloscopic data and data on the registration of vehicles.
Under the agreement, the parties are set to strengthen the cross-border police cooperation as regards the fighting of threats to the public safety.
The conditions in which the genetic information will be provided are set in the law on judicial genetic registration, so that the principle of confidentiality, as well as other provisions of the national and international legislation are observed. The concerned law will enter into force on 1 January 2019.
At the cabinet meeting, Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan said that parties due to implement the agreement’s provisions are Moldova, Albania, Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia.
The document is signed for an indefinite period.
On 13 June 2018, the laboratory of genetic and forensic expertise was inaugurated at the forensic medicine centre. The DNA investigations due to be carried out at this laboratory will have a certainty of up to 99.99 per cent. The DNA expertise could be made both at a demand by law-enforcement bodies and at personal request, on condition that the agreement for genetic investigation is observed. Earlier, Moldova has not had a DNA testing laboratory.
The agreement between the parties to the Police Cooperation Convention for Southeast Europe on automated exchange of DNA data, dactyloscopic data and data on the registration of vehicles was signed in Vienna on 13 September 2018. The document is to be submitted to parliament for consideration and ratification.
