Moldovan parliament speaker meets OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media

Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/ - The access to information and the regulatory norms for the media were discussed at a today’s meeting between Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu and OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Desir, who was an honorary guest of the ADAMI Media Prize Gala, held under the patronage of the parliament speaker.
According to the parliament’s communication and public relations department, the speaker made a presentation of the drafts adopted in the mass media sector and which were elaborated by the working group for the improvement of the mass media legislation in Moldova. For the first time ever, experts and professionals worked out legislative norms, passed in parliament, according to the commitment taken by Andrian Candu when the working group was created.
So far, the code of audiovisual media services of Moldova, national concept on the development of the mass media, concept of information security, law on the attraction of foreign investments in the field of production of films and other audiovisual works have been adopted. The latter draft is to encourage and facilitate the development of local media products – one of the principal elements in the fight against the misinformation and external propaganda.
Referring to the draft law on the protection of personal data, Andrian Candu said that it is to be voted in the first reading, in order to subsequently be subjected to discussions and consultations with the civil society.
The officials also tackled state policies on freedom of the media and discussed the sectors in which the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media can provide assistance.
