Sale, use of disposable dishes to be forbidden in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 November /MOLDPRES/ – The use and commercialisation of the disposable plastic dishes will be prohibited starting 01 January 2021. A draft law in this regard was adopted in final reading by Parliament today.

The initiative belongs to a group of MPs and stipulates that the use and sale of disposable plates, dishes, cutlery and plastic sticks, except biodegradable, shall be prohibited commencing 01 January 2021.

According to authors, the plastic objects are a source of garbage for communities. They propose as alternative disposable dishes made of paper, corn flour, organic hemp, sugars, wheat, sugar beet, sugar cane, starch, apple scraps, or the ones containing biodegradable additives.

Previously, the national legislation was supplemented by provisions prohibiting the use and marketing of plastic bags commencing 01 January 2019.
