Veterans of war in Afghanistan to be decorated with new distinction in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 November /MOLDPRES/ – The war veterans in Afghanistan will be decorated with the Commemorative Cross: Participant in military actions in Afghanistan (1979 – 1989). A draft law stipulating it has been voted on by the Parliament in its final reading today.

The new awards will be given to Moldovans who participated in the fighting in Afghanistan from 24 December 1979 – 15 February 1989, within the limited contingent of Soviet military troops in Afghanistan.

The distinction is a large Greek cross, placed over a smaller Greek cross, all made of silver. In the middle of the cross, the front silhouette of the main monument of the Memorial Complex: To the Sons of Motherland – Holy Remembrance in Chisinau, made of gold.

The distinctions will receive around 8,500 persons. It will be allocated almost MDL 2.5 million from the state budget (BS) for their production.
