Minister of foreign affairs meets with honorary consuls accredited in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 November /MOLDPRES/ – In the context of dynamising and developing bilateral relations with the states of the world, we want to make the most of the potential of Honorary Consulates of Moldova accredited abroad as well as of the 18 Honorary Consulates of the World States accredited in Moldova. The statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, during a meeting with Foreign Honorary Consuls accredited in Moldova, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.

According to Minister Tudor Ulianovschi, today the MAEIE promotes a dynamic, efficient and pro-active policy for promoting the image and national interest, domestic goods and services on different continents, as an example being the number of bilateral and multilateral contracts as well as the volume of Moldovan exports. "In the context, we are interested in deepening bilateral relations with states that have not opened diplomatic missions in Moldova. An important role in this process hold the Honorary Consuls, who are our direct contact with the countries they represent," said Minister Tudor Ulianovschi.

The head of the Moldovan diplomacy also specified that the Honorary Consuls can and must become the "locomotive" of establishing and developing the relations between the regions, initiating as many investment projects of some other kinds between the localities of Moldova and those from other states.

During the dialogue it was made an exchange of views on the bilateral relations, cooperation of the Honorary Consuls with the Moldovan authorities, and there were also addressed some problems in the activity of Honorary Consuls.

Honorary Consuls have welcomed the initiative of Minister Tudor Ulianovschi to organise such meetings because the direct dialogue will allow the operative solution of both the existing issues, establishment and initiation of partnerships between the business environment of Moldova and the states they represent.

For the moment, Honorary Consuls of Armenia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Colombia, Korea, Estonia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Mexico, Slovakia, Slovenia and Lebanon have been accredited in Moldova. There are to be accredited Honorary Consuls of Austria, Bangladesh and Ireland.
