About 65,000 people with severe disabilities got increased social allowances in 2018

Chisinau, 3 December /MOLDPRES/- About 65,000 people with severe disabilities received increased social allowances in 2018, and over 250 were in the workplace. The data were made public today when the International Day of People with Disabilities is marked.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, this year the International Day of Disabled People will be marked by a lot of events, such as: thematic exhibitions, seminars and roundtables. The events will end with a gala at which the people who have been remarked by employing as many disabled people as possible will be awarded.

In the interests of social inclusion of people with disabilities, MSMPS launched a national programme of deinstitutionalization of persons with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities in residential institutions by placing them to live independently in the community. By December, 12 houses were purchased from the Ministry's budget and 58 people were placed to live independently. At the same time, for employing persons with disabilities in the workplace, subsidies will be granted for the creation or adaptation of the jobs for these persons. ANOFM will compensate 50% of the costs of creating or adapting the workplace.

In 2018, state social allowances were increased by 20%, 10% and 5% to about 65,000 persons with severe, high and medium childhood disabilities. At the same time, the mechanism setting facilities for the import of means of transport for the transportation of people with disabilities of the locomotive system and road tax exemptions has been improved.

Statistics show that about 180,000 people with disabilities live in Moldova, of whom 11,500 are children.
