Structure for prevention alcohol, drug abuse created in southern city of Moldova

Chisinau, 04 December /MOLDPRES/ – The City Hall of Vulcanesti has created a commission to control and prevent abuse of alcoholic beverages, as well as use of drugs and narcotics.
The commission includes collaborators of the police inspectorate, medical – sanitary institutions, social assistance department, representatives of non – governmental organisations (NGOs). The members of the commission will systematically conduct raids to identify cases of alcohol and narcotic abuse, and prevent offences committed under the influence of these preparations.
According to the Vulcanesti city hall's info, in addition to the operative measures, the members of the commission plan a lot of prevention and information actions. "We will discuss with the members of the underprivileged families with whom social workers are in charge. Also, there will be lessons in the educational institutions, in which we will explain to the children about the alcohol and drug abuse," said sources from Vulcanesti city hall.
The statistics show that, annually, about a thousand Moldovans suffer from acute alcohol intoxication, and every fifth is minor.
The recent report of the World Health Organisation (WHO) says that on average a Moldovan man consumes 17.4 litres of pure alcohol per capita a year.
