Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/ - The old-style Orthodox Christians today celebrate the Holy Virgin’s Presentation in Temple – the first Christian holiday in the beginning of the Christmas Fast.
The Holy Virgin’s Presentation in Temple reminds about the moment when the Virgin Mary was brought by her parents, Joachim and Anne, to the Temple of Jerusalem. Although believers are in the period of the Christmas Fast, on this day, they are allowed to each fish. The Presentation of the Holy Virgin in Temple happened on a day when Virgin Mary was as little as three years old and her parents were fulfilling their promise to dedicate their child to God, when becoming parents.
The holiday is honoured by believers through prayer and fasting, fish and candles brought to the church and blessed there, in order to receive health, happiness, success and a good sight. The Holy Virgin’s Presentation in Temple is associated with the metaphor of light. People who died without candles or who drowned are commemorated on this holiday.
They say that, if believers honour this holiday, they will have full barns and wealth in their households next year.
