Public health specialists record six cases of flu in Moldova

Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/ - Since the beginning of the cold season, six cases of flu have been registered in Moldova, of which four in the capital, one in Balti and one case in the central Criuleni district.
According to data by the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP), at present, the epidemiological situation through flu is at the low level in Moldova. Data received from districts shows that, on 26 November – 2 December, the number of acute respiratory infections increased by 4.7 per cent. On this period, 8,545 new cases of acute infections of upper airways were reported.
Samples collected from people sick with flu showed the presence of the A (H1N1) virus. The people were not vaccinated against the seasonal influenza. They were hospitalized and were treated according to the clinical protocol.
To avoid the falling sick with flu, epidemiologists recommend that citizens do not resort to self-treatment and appeal to doctor at the appearance of the first symptoms of disease compatible with flu. They should avoid contact with pregnant women, immune-compromised persons, people with the cardiovascular diseases, chronic diseases of the respiratory apparatus, diabetes and obesity.
Also, physicians urge residents and medical staff to use protection masks when assisting and taking care of ill people. Among doctors’ recommendations, there are also washing hands with soap, covering the mouth and nose with non-reusable paper serviettes during cough and sneeze, avoiding crowded places.
