Christmas Tree inaugurated in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Christmas Tree was inaugurated on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) from Chisinau today.
The acting mayor of Chisinau, Ruslan Codreanu, along with more children who came to the centre of the capital, started the ceremony on inauguration of the Christmas Tree and lighted the ornamental holiday lights.
„Dear children and Chisinau residents, today we inaugurate the Christmas Tree and mark the beginning of the winter holidays. This period is full of joy, light and hope, feelings experienced by the side of the dear people. This tree was decorated with 1,700 globes, which we want to represent all nice things we are to carry out in the forthcoming year,” Codreanu said.
On the occasion of the winter holidays, the Chisinau city hall organized an entertainment programme for children, in which pupils laureates of international contests participated. At the same time, actors of the Guguta municipal puppet theatre participated in the holiday.
At the same time, on the occasion of the winter holidays, the praetor’s offices will set Christmas Trees in those five districts of the capital. Also, on 24-25 December, on the eve of the new-style Christmas, the Chisinau city hall will organize cultural and entertainment activities nearby the tree on PMAN.
The Christmas Tree inaugurated today in the centre of Chisinau has a height of 20 metres and was donated by a local economic agent. At the same time, 370,000 lei was allocated to buy decorations and lights for the tree. This year, an artificial tree was set in Chisinau. The decision was taken following an opinion poll conducted by local authorities.
Also, another tree will be set at the Christmas Fair, due to be inaugurated on the 31 August Street from Chisinau, in the perimeter of the streets Metropolitan Banulescu-Bodoni and A. Pushkin, on 15 December. The tree has a height of 20 metres and was donated by Romania’s government.
