Moldovan PM meets U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs

Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent. The PM said that Moldova’s relation with the USA was strategic and the support provided by the United States was quite valuable for the country, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

Pavel Filip referred to the government’s actions to improve the business environment and stabilize the banking sector, which yield results. The economic growth reached 5.2 per cent in the second quarter of this year and by two billion lei more was accumulated in the budget against the planned sum. At the same time, in the first nine months of 2018, investments worth over 140 million dollars were made. Efforts were taken to fight corruption and reform the justice, especially the amendment of the legal framework. Yet, the implementation of these reforms unfolds with difficulty.   

The prime minister noted that all problems can be overcome through discussions and by finding compromises, expressing the government’s every openness in this respect. “We are a team which has the needed capacities and wish to change the things in Moldova,” Pavel Filip said.

The American official confirmed the support of the USA for Moldova to be a success, democratic and prosperous country. At the same time, George Kent stressed that the USA would back Moldova when facing domestic and external changes, including in preventing risks of interference with the electoral process from abroad. In the context, Pavel Filip said that the governance would do its utmost to ensure a democratic, free and transparent electoral process.
