Moldovan speaker invites members of US Congress to monitor parliamentary elections in country

Chisinau, 6 December /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu invited members of the Senate and the US House of Representatives to monitor parliamentary elections in Moldova to be convinced of the fairness of the electoral process and the elections, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The invitation was made during meetings Candu had in Washington.
The speaker requested support for hybrid threats and for strengthening the state's institutional capacities to respond to current security risks. He referred to the media, banking system, energy system, Dniester security area and political sector and foreign direct implications as areas primarily targeted at hybrid war.
Senator John Barrasso, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, expressed concern about foreign implications in Moldova's internal affairs. He stressed support for Moldova and pledged to promote the pro-Moldova resolution registered with the US Senate.
Congressman Adam Kinzinger, a member of the Foreign Policy Committee and the House of Representatives' Energy and Commerce Committee, the US Congress, appreciated the dynamics and progress in the Moldovan-American relations. He noted he backs the development of cooperation in strategic areas.
Adam Kinzinger pointed out the US willingness for full support in Moldova’s aspiration to be part of the Western civilisation.
The officials also approached regional issues, and encouraged the development of cooperation on the common defense between Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, a commitment launched at the Chisinau Conference on 2 March 2018.
Candu pays a working visit to Washington on 4-8 December 2018. He will take part in the Parliamentary Intelligence Security Forum and the launch of the Moldovan-US Business Council.
The speaker’s last visit to the USA took place on 25 June 2018.
