Two Moldovans detained for committing thefts in European Union

Chisinau, 6 December /MOLDPRES/- Two Moldovans, aged 34 and 37, have been detained for committing thefts within the European Union. The head of the National Investigation Inspectorate, Ion Iachimov, made the statement today.
Moldovans acted mostly in Germany, Italy and Austria, where they committed robberies from luxury houses, shops and means of transport.
"The suspects stole money, jewelry, precious metals and stones, art objects, luxury cars and spare parts. Subsequently, the goods were brought to Moldova by smuggling. German law enforcement officials have identified at least 22 such cases, following which the victims were affected more than 20 million euros," Iachimov said.
For his part, prosecutor Vasile Golban said that a criminal case was initiated in 2016, based on theft, robbery committed in Germany and Italy. "The suspects also committed theft in the Republic of Moldova. They were detained yesterday, following 18 searches in our country. They have a criminal record. It's the theft and drug trafficking. At the same time, other members of the group were announced in international search, as they are not in the country. In all, the group is made up of 17 people,” Golban said.
Following the raids, the law enforcement bodies found luxury items and precious metals, which could not be sold. Also, several weapons were found. Prosecutors will seize these goods to be returned damage.
If found guilty, the suspects risk up to 15 years in prison.
