Residents of Chisinau-based building hit by explosion can return home

Chisinau, 6 December /MOLDPRES/ - The residents of the building hit by explosion in the Rascani district of Chisinau can return home starting from today.  

According to the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, people can already live in 116 out of those 126 flats and finishing works take place in ten apartments from the 14th-17th stories, the worst hit by the blast, which will end on the days to come.    

Following the explosion, at an instruction by Prime Minister Pavel Filip, Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici instructed to urgently create a working groups made up of specialists in the field, which examined, monitored and coordinated all actions on repair of the building hit by the blast.    

„Due to quickness, professionalism, continuous work and correct organization, we have managed to qualitatively re-establish the building hit. More experts were involved in the work, including six technical teams, led by the head of the department of urbanism, construction and dwellings at the Economics Ministry, Mihai Lupascu, representatives of the Agency for Technical Supervision, local authorities and the constructions company which carried out the restoration works. We are happy that, on the eve of the holidays, the residents can safely return home,” Gaburici said.     

At the same time, the minister urged citizens not to use gas cylinders, on the purpose of safety. “For such cases to never repeat, it is very important that we do not use gas cylinders in flats and if we know that there are people keeping them, we must necessarily inform the competent authorities,” Chiril Gaburici said.  

At present, the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry works to make a regulation due to clearly see the use, filling and import of gas cylinders on all the territory of Moldova.   

Five persons died in the wake of an explosion which took place in a 21-storied block of flats from the Rascani district of Moldova’s capital on 6 October 2018. The city hall earmarked ten million lei for the building’s restoration.
